Think about all the information you have regarding what it takes to be a successful executive. Now forget it. That’s right. Dump it from your brain. Every day you play a game of mind versus matter in a generally uncertain environment on a field of business challenges. You solve many of your problems with routine tasks and not much thought. However when a more difficult challenge arises, your thinking becomes vulnerable to past brain patterns that can lead you astray. We often leap to solutions that don’t work or fixate on old mental models that keep us stuck in the past. We kill others’ ideas, securing our place in status quo. Even worse, we keep doing the same thing over and over again, naturally and instinctively.
Your future and the future of your organization depends upon how effectively you use your brain. We need to respond differently. Thinking about our thinking is one of the keys to successful leadership. Cognitive scientists call it metacognition: the ability to detach from a problem, step away from it and thus gain a new perspective. Mindful thinking is the new competitive edge leading to better decision-making, innovative creative strategies, and business success.
In this Wellness Wednesday webinar, we'll learn to leverage opportunities, identify areas for improvement and learn from others by defining the perimeter of your circle of competence. We'll also explore strategies to exercise the frontal lobes of the brain thus increasing the ability to compete and think differently.
