AC Transit: BRT Update

BRT Construction Sites through February 15, 2020

AC Transit is committed to providing the most accurate information for anyone seeking information along the 9.5-mile BRT corridor. Currently, construction crews are hard at work building BRT stations, installing new wheelchair accessible curb ramps, modern traffic signals, LED street lighting and more innovative improvements in the following neighborhoods.

 
 

DOWNTOWN OAKLAND — Broadway between 11th and 20th Streets

  • Removing old concrete
  • Underground utilities work
  • Installing communications network
  • Building BRT station
  • Installing traffic signal
  • Building new roadway 
  • Building sidewalks and curb ramps

CHINATOWN — 11th and 12th Streets, between Broadway and Lake Merritt Boulevard

  • Building new sidewalk or curb ramp
  • Underground utilities work
  • Installing communications network
  • Building BRT station
  • Building new roadway

EASTLAKE — International Boulevard and East 12th Street, between Lake Merritt Boulevard/1st Avenue and 14th Avenue

  • Installing communications network
  • Building BRT station 
  • Building sidewalks and curb ramps

SAN ANTONIO — International Boulevard between 14th Avenue and 23rd Avenue

  • Installing and connecting communications network
  • Paving
  • Concrete work in new medians

FRUITVALE — International Boulevard between 24th Avenue and 42nd Avenue

  • Paving
  • Installing and connecting communications network

HAVENSCOURT-LOCKWOOD — International Boulevard between 42nd Avenue and 66th Avenue

  • Installing curb ramp
  • Paving

HEGENBERGER — International Boulevard between 66th Avenue and 86th Avenue

  • Major work completed; final elements coming later this year

ELMHURST — International Boulevard between 86th Avenue and Durant Avenue 

  • Major work completed; final elements coming later this year

SAN LEANDRO — East 14th Street from Durant Avenue to Davis Street, and Davis Street from East 14th Street to San Leandro Boulevard

  • Building the BRT Southern Terminus

About AC Transit's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
BRT is a $216 million investment in the community. BRT bus service mirrors the frequency, reliability and safety of light-rail train service without the high cost of building a rail line. BRT will operate along a 9.5-mile corridor between downtown Oakland and the San Leandro BART Station, primarily along International Boulevard and East 14th Street.

Members of our BRT Outreach Team are on the International Boulevard corridor daily to answer questions and provide the latest updates.
