BOMA International's John Catlett to Share Insights at Thursday's Codes Seminar

BOMA International's Director of Codes and Standards, John Catlett, is one of the panelists at this Thursday's Codes Referesher Seminar.
One of the panelists from this week's Codes Refresher Seminar is traveling quite the distance! All the way from DC, John Catlett will be updating attendees on the BOMA Building Standards and lending the BOMA International perespective. Catlett joined the BOMA Advocacy team November 1, 2017 as Director of Codes and Voluntary Standards. He serves as the staff liaison to the Codes and Voluntary Standards Committee, formulates positions and represents BOMA in code promulgation, and provides consultative services to BOMA members. Catlett is also involved with sustainability and disaster preparedness efforts of the organization.
 
Catlett is formerly the Manager of Code Development for the American Wood Council.  He was responsible for coordination and budget management of the Tall Wood Program, served as the AWC liaison to the International Code Council's Tall Wood Ad-hoc Committee, managed the Code Official Connection program and managed the Industry Fire Safety Coalition.

Catlett started his code administration career in 1985 with the City of Winchester, promoting to the position of Building and Code Official in 1991.  Before joining Alexandria, he was the Codes Compliance Administrator for the City of Williamsburg for nearly 15 years.  He also worked in the fire and emergency medical service field for the Department of Defense, as a contract firefighter for FEMA, and as a contract medic for Valley Health Systems.  His volunteer service started in 1978 and continued until 2007; 18 of those years as an active firefighter and medic.

Catlett graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Public Administration from Thomas Nelson College.  He holds certifications in all trade areas including the International Code Council Master Code Professional designation. He also holds certification as an Accessibility Plans Examiner and Inspector through the International Code Council, Certified Professional Code Administrator from the National Academy of Code Administrators, and Certified Building Official from the Council of American Building Officials
 
In addition, John is a certified building official, fire official and building maintenance official along with all trade and fire protection system certifications through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. He was formerly certified as an Advanced Life Support Technician (EMT-Cardiac), Fire Service Instructor, Firefighter III, Fire Inspector II and Fire Official, and various other fire and EMS certifications in Virginia.  He holds National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 300, 700 and 800 level certifications.  He was formerly a licensed master electrician in Virginia.

The Codes Refresher Seminar is on Thursday (3/1) at 8:30AM, at Christ the Light Cathedral, Conference Room DE, in Oakland. The event is hosted by the Codes and Standards Committee and is sponsored by IES-HVAC and Battalion One Fire Protection.
