BOMA International Guidance: Interactions with Law Enforcement

BOMA International members represent the breadth of commercial real estate, including tenants and clients who operate an incredibly diverse range of businesses in a host of industries. Property professionals may, at times, interact with local, state, or federal law enforcement, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in a variety of contexts. BOMA is actively evaluating current events and points of interest identified by the BOMA local associations, and we will provide supplemental information in the event it is helpful or necessary.

City of Oakland to Bring Employees Back to Office

Oakland's employees are being called back to city hall.  Starting February 18, all unrepresented department directors, deputy directors, managers and supervisors will be expected to come into the office four days a week, and starting April 7, all other city employees are expected to do the same, according to a letter the city administrator recently sent to labor leadership last week that was obtained by the Business Times.  The letter, which was shared with the city's elected offices on Monday, also said the city intends to discontinue its telecommuting work program it established during the pandemic.

Federal Immigration Sweeps

Over the past week, several immigration sweeps have occurred throughout the US.  These included several sweep attempts at Commercial Real Estate buildings.  The BOMA community has come together to advocate on this issue. At the BOMA California board meeting at the BOMA International Winter Business meeting we discussed the issue and worked on preparing information for our members.  Thank you to our BOMA partners at BOMA San Francisco for their leadership in developing general information on how to handle and best practices document.
