Former NBA star to open restaurant in Oakland

Kevin Johnson, the former NBA player with the Phoenix Suns and two-term mayor of Sacramento, is taking a shot on a soul food restaurant in Oakland. Called Fixins Oakland, the full-service restaurant is scheduled to open next spring near Lake Merritt.  Johnson will announce the new location on Sept. 6 at a private event in Oakland, with city mayor Sheng Thao and Fredrika Newton, widow of the Black Panther Party’s Huey P. Newton, in attendance. Fixins Oakland will be a 7,000-square-foot space with a total of 215 seats and will serve its signature chicken and waffles, oxtails, shrimp and grits and deep fried deviled eggs.

BOMA is proud and honored to be one of the 18 international CRE associations presenting the 2023 Global Real Estate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Survey, a global study of DEI practices across the commercial real estate industry. DOE Invests Over $13 Million For Projects That Capture Carbon Emissions

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) recently announced 23 projects to receive a total of more than $13 million in funding supporting research and development (R&D) for carbon management technologies and applications that will reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to address the impacts of climate change.

We Need You: Join the BOMA OEB Board

We have five 2-year director positions that will begin in January 2024.  Four positions are available to Principal Members and one for an Associate Member.  Any member in good standing is eligible to apply for a position. 

Each year the BOMA Oakland/East Bay Board reviews the current board in terms of knowledge, skills, and abilities to identify needs for future boards. For 2024, the Board is looking for applications to continue improving the diversity of the board around job roles targeting legal, life science, industrial members and 0-7 years of experience in the Commercial Real Estate industry.
