BOMA Policy Brief: Electronic Vehicles

BOMA International has developed a new policy brief on Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations: Considerations for CRE and a summary of EV legislation and incentives by state. A significant transportation shift toward electric vehicles is underway, along with the promise of a wide range of societal benefits. While the potential is real—and may soon be accelerated due to interest from the Biden Administration—the country as a whole is only at the beginning stages of this transition, and the ramifications for commercial real estate continue to shift.

At today’s BOMA International Board of Governors meeting, Karen Cowan was named the Regional Member of the Year for the Pacific Southwest region. And Manny Moreno was elected to another term on the Executive Committee. Well deserved on both fronts! Thank you Karen and Manny for all that you do for BOMA.

Medical Office OSHA & ETS Updates

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) for healthcare settings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. OSHA's reasoning for the ETS is that, although the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has relaxed mandates on social distancing and mask requirements, employees and others in a healthcare setting remain in danger of exposure to COVID-19. In effect, workers in healthcare settings, where people with COVID-19 are reasonably expected, need additional safeguards to address the hazard of exposure. The ETS requires continued social distancing, mask requirements and other safety measures. We are reaching out to you today as some members have inquired about the impact to medical office building operations.
