NOVEMBER 2010 STATEWIDE BALLOT MEASURES
We will not know the full slate of propositions that will be on the November ballot until the certification deadline at the end of June.  However, several propositions have already qualified dealing with a range of issues, including:  legalization of marijuana, Congressional re-districting, a vehicle license surcharge dedicated to parks, and an $11B water bond.

Measures that would delay AB 32, change legislative term limits, and a union-backed measure to raise taxes on business are pending qualification, but are expected to be on the ballot.

ULI REPORT ON STATEWIDE LAND USE LAW SB 375
The Urban Land Institute has released a report entitled “SB 375; Impact Analysis Report.”  Less a critical analysis of the law and more a report meant to help impacted entities (local government and businesses) implement, plan, and comply with the law.  We provide the report as a useful tool to better understand how SB 375 will impact the way you do business.  Whether you like, dislike, or are ambivalent to the underlying policy, SB 375 is the “law of the land” and is fundamentally changing the way land use planning functions in California.  With that in mind, we highly encourage our members to get involved at the local level and help inform the discussion, educate policymakers about challenges facing property owners, and positively shape the final implementation of the law.

ARE YOU READY FOR CALGREEN?
California’s green building code becomes mandatory on January 1, 2011 and will affect all new commercial construction.  New mandatory measures address planning and design in the areas of site development; water efficiency and conservation for both indoor and outdoor water use; energy efficiency; material conservation and resource efficiency including water resistance and moisture management; construction waste reduction, disposal and recycling; building maintenance and operation; pollutant control; indoor moisture control; indoor and outdoor air quality; and environmental comfort.

The California Building Standards Commission is offering a series of regional half-day workshops to help you prepare.  Workshops will provide an overview of the new mandatory standards, voluntary tier structure, compliance checklists and code publication dates. In addition, speakers will provide answers to your specific code questions.

CALGreen classes are being offered up and down the state from San Diego to Redding.  Make sure you are prepared. For more information and to register, visit this website, CALGreen Workshops
