Mandated Recycling Seminar

Mandated Recycling is Coming! Are You Prepared?

Speakers:

  • Rachel Balsley, StopWaste.Org
  • Peter Slote, City of Oakland
  • Helen Ahrens, Property Manager with Cushman & Wakefield at The Waterfront
  • Lynn Linhares, Property Manager with Kennedy Wilson at California Plaza

Assembly Bill 32 – the California Global Warming Solutions Act – will introduce mandatory recycling for California businesses, including commercial real estate, in 2012.  Many local and regional jurisdictions around the state are considering similar mandates tailored to local circumstances, including Alameda County.  However it happens, recycling will soon shift from a voluntary, environmental practice to a statutory compliance activity.

Take-aways from this workshop will include:

  • Summary of likely mandate timeline, requirements, and eligibility
  • What kind of enforcement (and support!) to expect
  • Lessons from BOMAOEB managers with top-performing recycling programs
  • Lessons from CA jurisdictions that already have local recycling mandates
  • Resources for services and technical free technical assistance that will ensure your building’s compliance.

Rachel Balsley and Peter Slote are recycling experts with StopWaste.Org (Alameda County) and Oakland Public Works (respectively). They will cut to chase and deliver just the information and insights commercial real estate professionals need to efficiently navigate the coming mandates.  BOMAOEB principle members with top-performing recycling programs will also be on hand to describe their stumbles, successes and best practices.
